Certificate III in Business
This course is for people who want to acquire knowledge and skills to pursue employment and/or further training in a range of business areas. It covers skills using current business technology, designing and producing text documents, maintaining business resources and financial records, processing customer complaints and participating in OH&S processes.
This qualification aims to reflect the role of individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context using some discretion, judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. They may provide technical advice and support to a team.
Entry requirements
There are no prerequisites for this course however it is desired that candidates enter the qualification through a number of entry points demonstrating potential to undertake vocational education and training at certificate level, including:
- after achieving the BSB20107 Certificate II in Business or other relevant qualification/s or
- providing evidence of competency in the majority of units required for the BSB20107Certificate II in Business or
- with some vocational experience assisting in a range of support roles without a formal business qualification.
Career opportunities/vocational outcomes
Include but not limited to data entry operator, general clerk, payroll officer and typist.
Program Articulation
Students who successfully complete this course are able to gain articulation into BSB40207 Certificate IV in Business or a range of other Certificate IV qualifications.
Program Duration
Full Time: 6 months
Part Time: 12 months
Course Commencement
Courses commence in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.
Delivery Methods
This course is delivered through face to face classroom learning or by correspondence.
Assessment Methods
Students may be required to sit written and oral exams, participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects and role plays.
Students undertaking a course as part of a work based traineeship will be assessed in the workplace.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Participants with previous training and/or experience may apply for RPL. Participants, who have completed courses with equivalent / matching learning outcomes, will be granted credit transfer.

Qualifications granted by Australian Academy are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). National Training Provider No: 31716
Course Structure
To achieve a Certificate III in Business, the qualification packaging rules requires completion of 12 units:
- 1 core unit
- plus 11 elective units:
- a minimum of 7 elective units must be selected from the Training package suggested elective units
- The other 4 elective units may be selected from the remaining elective units listed below, the BSB07 Business Services Training Package or any other currently endorsed National Training Package. If not listed within the units of this qualification, a maximum of 1 unit may be selected from a Certificate II qualification or 2 units may be taken from a Certificate IV qualification.
In all cases selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the characteristics of this qualification.
This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements of the Certificate III in Business BSB30107 from the Business Services Training Package BSB07.
Units selected from other Training Packages must not duplicate units selected from or available within the BSB07 Business Services Training Package.
