Certificate III in Business Administration
This course is suitable for all ages from school leavers to mature-aged learners and also trainees. It develops competence in areas including maintaining business resources, producing spreadsheets, maintaining general ledgers and exercising initiative in a business environment.
This qualification aims to reflect the role of individuals who apply a broad range of administrative competencies in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement. They may provide technical advice and support to a team.
Entry requirements
There are no prerequisites for this course however it is desired that candidates enter the qualification through a number of entry points demonstrating potential to undertake vocational education and training at certificate level, including:
- after achieving the BSB20107 Certificate II in Business or other relevant qualification/s or
- providing evidence of competency in the majority of units required for the BSB20107 Certificate III in Business or
- with some vocational experience assisting in a range of support roles without a formal business qualification.
Career opportunities/vocational outcomes
Include but not limited to accounts receivable clerk, clerk, receptionist, office administrator and junior personal assistant.
Program Articulation
Students who successfully complete this course are able to gain articulation into BSB40507 Certificate IV in Business Administration or a range of other Certificate IV qualifications.
Program Duration
Full Time: 6 months
Part Time: 12 months

Course Commencement
Courses commence in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.
Delivery Methods
This course is delivered through face to face classroom learning or by correspondence.
Assessment Methods
Students may be required to sit written and oral exams, participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects and role plays.
Students undertaking a course as part of a work based traineeship will be assessed in the workplace.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Participants with previous training and/or experience may apply for RPL. Participants, who have completed courses with equivalent / matching learning outcomes, will be granted credit transfer.

Qualifications granted by Australian Academy are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). National Training Provider No: 31716
Course Structure
To achieve a Certificate III in Business Administration, the qualification packaging rules requires completion of 13 units:
- 2 core units
- plus 7 administration units selected from the Training package suggested administration units
- plus 4 electives selected from the remaining administration units, the generic business elective units included in the Training Package or from an equivalent AQF qualification in the BSB07 a maximum of 2 electives may be selected from a Certificate II or Certificate IV qualification. If not listed within the units of this qualification, a maximum of 2 electives may be selected from a Certificate II or Certificate IV qualification.
In all cases selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the characteristics of this qualification.
This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements of the Certificate III in Business Administration BSB30407 from the Business Services Training Package BSB07.
Units selected from other Training Packages must not duplicate units selected from or available within the BSB07 Business Services Training Package.
