Certificate III in Retail
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in retail operations and/or supervision with the need to apply discretion and judgement. It is for people who already work in retail and want to progress through junior level in sales and service to retail operations and/or supervision.
The qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway and for VET in Schools delivery. Students are able to earn an industry recognised Certificate II in Retail with the option of two units being contributed to their University Admissions Index.

There are no formal educational entry requirements for this course.
Career opportunities/vocational outcomes
Include but not limited to shift manager, team leader, department manager, crew leader and merchandise coordinator.
Program Articulation
Students who successfully complete this course are able to gain articulation into SIR40207 Certificate IV in Retail Management.
Program Duration
Full Time: 3 months
Part Time: 6 months
Course Commencement
Courses commence in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.
Delivery Methods
This course is delivered through face to face classroom learning or by correspondence.
Assessment Methods
Students may be required to sit written and oral exams, participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects and role plays.
Students undertaking a course as part of a work based traineeships will be assessed in the workplace.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Participants with previous training and/or experience may apply for RPL. Participants, who have completed courses with equivalent / matching learning outcomes, will be granted credit transfer.

Qualifications granted by Australian Academy are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). National Training Provider No: 31716
Course Structure
To achieve a Certificate III in Retail the qualification packaging rules requires completion of 10 units:
- all 3 core units
- 7 elective units:
- A maximum of 5 elective units may be selected from the Training package suggested Elective Units. A maximum of 2 of these electives may be selected from the Product Knowledge functional category.
- A maximum of 2 elective units may be selected from another endorsed Training Package. These must be units which are packaged within a Certificate III or IV qualification in the parent Training Package.
Elective units must be additional to those already counted towards a lower level qualification within this Training Package.
In all cases selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the characteristics of this qualification.
This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements of the Certificate III in Retail SIR30207 from the Retail Services Training Package SIR07.
