Certificate IV in Small Business Management

This qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. They may provide technical advice and support to a team.

Participants must complete 12 units of competency for this qualification. 6 mandatory core units must be completed and the remainder of the electives.

Career Opportunities/Vocational Outcomes

After achieving the BSB40407 Certificate IV in Small Business Management, candidates may undertake a qualification in a specialist area within the BSB07 Business Services Training Package such as marketing, management, human resources.

Program Articulation
 
Students who successfully complete this course are able to gain articulation into BSB50207 Diploma of Business or a range of other Diploma qualifications.

Program Duration

Full Time: 6 months       
Part Time: 12 months

Course Commencement

Courses commence in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.

Delivery Methods
 
This course is delivered through blended face to face classroom learning or by correspondence.

Assessment Methods

Students may be required to sit written and oral exams, participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects and role plays.

Students undertaking a course as part of a work based traineeship will be assessed in the workplace.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Participants with previous training and/or experience may apply for RPL. Participants, who have completed courses with equivalent / matching learning outcomes, will be granted credit transfer.

Accreditation

Qualifications granted by Australian Academy are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education and Training (DET).

This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

Course Structure

To achieve a Certificate IV in Small Business Management, the qualification packaging rules requires completion of units:
  • 4 core unit
  • plus elective units:
    • a minimum of 5 elective units must be selected from the Training package suggested elective units
    • The other 4 elective units may be selected from the remaining elective units listed below, the BSB07 Business Services Training Package or any other currently endorsed National Training Package. If not listed within the units of this qualification, 1 unit may be selected from either a Certificate III or a Certificate Diploma qualification.
In all cases selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the characteristics of this qualification.

Units selected from other Training Packages must not duplicate units selected from or available within the BSB07 Business Services Training Package.

This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements of the Certificate IV in Business BSB40407 from the Business Services Training Package BSB07.
