Certificate IV in Business

This course is for people who want to develop the knowledge and skills to effectively operate in a wide range of business contexts across industry sectors. You will learn skills including addressing customer needs, managing projects, establishing networks as well as developing teams and individuals.

This qualification aims to reflect the role of individuals who use well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others.

Entry requirements

There are no prerequisites for this course however it is desired that candidates enter the qualification through a number of entry points demonstrating potential to undertake vocational education and training at certificate level, including:
  • after achieving the BSB30107 Certificate III in Business or other relevant qualification/s or
  • providing evidence of competency in the majority of units required for the BSB30107 Certificate III in Business or
  • with some vocational experience assisting in a range of environments providing administrative or operational support to individuals and/or teams but without a formal business qualification.
Career opportunities/vocational outcomes

Include but not limited to administrator, project officer and working in a business environment, across a wide variety of industry sectors.

Program Articulation
 
Students who successfully complete this course are able to gain articulation into BSB50207 Diploma of Business or a range of other Diploma qualifications.

Program Duration

Full Time: 6 months     Part Time: 12 months

Course Commencement

Courses commence in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.

Delivery Methods

This course is delivered through face to face classroom learning, online learning at students' self pace or by correspondence.

Assessment Methods

Students may be required to sit written and oral exams, participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects and role plays.

Students undertaking a course as part of a work based traineeship will be assessed in the workplace.

Recognition of Prior Learning
 
Participants with previous training and/or experience may apply for RPL. Participants, who have completed courses with equivalent / matching learning outcomes, will be granted credit transfer.

Accreditation
 
Qualifications granted by Australian Academy are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). National Training Provider No: 31716

Course Structure

To achieve a Certificate IV in Business, the qualification packaging rules requires completion of 10 units:
  • 1 core unit
  • plus 9 elective units:
    • a minimum of 5 elective units must be selected from the Training package suggested elective units
    • The other 4 elective units may be selected from the remaining elective units listed below, the BSB07 Business Services Training Package or any other currently endorsed National Training Package. If not listed within the units of this qualification, 1 unit may be selected from either a Certificate III or a Certificate Diploma qualification.
In all cases selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome sought, local industry requirements and the characteristics of this qualification.

This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements of the Certificate IV in Business BSB40207 from the Business Services Training Package BSB07.

Units selected from other Training Packages must not duplicate units selected from or available within the BSB07 Business Services Training Package.
